IPS-Energy software
Purchase Software Licenses
IPS-SYSTEMS™ products are sold under a commercial software license. All products or parts of products must be licensed with IPS-Intelligent Process Solutions GmbH.

IPS products are mostly split into two parts, a server part and a client part. Each part must be licensed.

All IPS products are built with a modular concept. You do not have to purchase all parts of the product; you can build your own product and license just the modules you need. Licenses can be built for all needs.

IPS-EPIS™ and IPS-ENERGY™ Licensing
For IPS-EPIS™ and IPS-ENERGY™, licensing is split into two parts, a server license and a client license.

The one and only condition is that the number of server licenses must be greater than or equal to the number of client licenses. This means that all purchased modules must be activated on the server. On the client side, a smaller number of modules can be activated. For example, if you own the licenses for the complete IPS-ENERGY™ software, you must activate the complete software on your server, both on client side, the IPS-RELEX™ part alone can be activated. With this method, you do not have to purchase the same license for all clients and pay for the full license if you just need IPS-RELEX™ for a client.

These licenses must be activated with IPS. Therefore, you must provide some machine information to IPS, such as a machine name and a special generated hardware code. With this code, your license can be activated for you. IPS will provide you an activation key that automatically activates all purchased functionality.

IPS-WebSuite™ Licensing
Our Web-based solution is licensed for concurrent users. This means that, if you purchased ten user licenses for IPS-WebSuite™, you can work with up to ten users at the same time. Please be aware that the license does not work as a common concurrent license system. Ten concurrent user licenses means, in our case, that you own ten “named” licenses. The system administrator must assign the available licenses to named users. This means that these users can use IPS-WebSuite™. If you decide to change users, you must reassign a license from one user to the other. The first user will no longer be able to use IPS-WebSuite™.

IPS-SmartGridDI™ Licensing
The licensing method in IPS-SmartGridDI™ is different from the above licensing models. Here, all modules must be licensed in a different way. This makes the licensing more flexible and keeps the price as low as possible for you.

DI-SPY™ Module
Here, the scope of delivery includes a package of five data source licenses. This means that that you can connect up to five data sources to IPS-SmartGridDI™. Connected data sources means the physical connections to a database or a file. For example, a connection to a Microsoft SQL Server uses one SPY license. The connection to an external Excel file also uses one SPY license. If you are using an IPS database, an Excel spreadsheet, and an Oracle database, you will use three SPY licenses. SPY licenses can be purchased in packages of five. The first package of five licenses is included in the scope of delivery of IPS-SmartGridDI™.

The Publisher module must be licensed based on connections. Publisher counts the connections and will limit these to the number of purchased licenses.

The Analysis module is licensed on the number of customer-specific analyses. Some preconfigured analyses are part of the IPS-SmartGridDI™ package. All customer-specific configured analyses must be licensed separately.

An example:

You would like to purchase IPS-EPIS™ and IPS-ENERGY™ for 100 users/clients. 50 of your users need IPS-EPIS™, 30 need IPS-ENERGY™, and 20 need both. You must purchase a server license, which activates both products. For your clients, you must purchase 50 licenses that activate IPS-EPIS™, 30 licenses that activate IPS-ENERGY™, and 20 licenses that activate both products. The system is completely modular. If you would like to activate optional modules in the future, such as IPS-Report Studio™ or IPS-Calculation Studio™, you just need to add a server license for these products and a number of client licenses. Please be aware that some optional modules have dependencies and cannot be used alone. Learn about dependencies on our module overview page.
Technical license information

IPS-SYSTEMS™ are published under a commercial license. All rights reserved by IPS Intelligent Process Solutions GmbH.

To use IPS-SYSTEMS™, appropriate licenses must be acquired. Licenses include only usage rights for IPS products. Property, source code, and copyrights remain with IPS-Intelligent Process Solutions GmbH.

IPS products are mainly split into a server and a client component. A license must be acquired for both types. Therefore, both a pure server license and a pure client license exist. Special services or additions must be activated with a special license.

License keys activate IPS products and enable purchased functionality. Without a license, IPS products cannot be used. Any kind of license must be implemented in the installed system and activated with IPS.

Details about the needed licenses can be reviewed in any Service Contract between IPS-Intelligent Process Solutions GmbH and the customer.

IPS-License concept
There are two different methods to activate and validate your license. Licenses can be activated in online and offline mode.
Online Activation
To activate your license online, you must have an active Internet connection during license installation. The IPS license server will be contacted, and your license will be automatically checked and activated. Between your network and the IPS license server, a secure https connection will be established.

Online activation
Offline Activation

If your system does not offer the possibility to activate your licenses online, IPS also offers an offline activation system. If you would like to activate your license offline, you must provide your installation code (generated within IPS-SYSTEMS™) to your support contact. Based on this information, an activation file and a confirmation code will be generated and transmitted to you. With this information, you can activate your server and client installations.

Offline activation
Licenses are saved in the IPS database. Starting your client installation will cause a connection to the server to be established to check your license status. If the license is valid, your IPS installation will start normally. In the case of mobile clients, special options must be set. Mobile clients can start IPS installations without a license check with each start.
